Shapes & Sections

A reference to section geometry, dimensions and the basis of stock-weight calculations.

Geometry and published section data serve different purposes.

Area equations below describe ideal, sharp-cornered geometry. Rolled sections can include fillets, flange slopes and manufacturing tolerances. Use the published mass and properties for the exact designation when a standard section is specified.

For area A in mm² and density ρ in kg/m³, mass per metre = ρA × 10⁻⁶ kg/m. Volume = area × length with consistent units. Density does not establish strength or suitability.
